One-to-One Coaching

Piano and music coaching offering high-value expert support for independent adult learners

If you’re an adult piano or music theory learner who’s mostly teaching yourself, sometimes it’s really handy to have a check-in with an experienced coach who can answer your questions and help you make sure you’re on the right track.

I offer one-off and occasional coaching sessions for adult pianists, self-teachers, songwriters, and working musicians who want thoughtful, practical guidance without signing up for regular tuition.

No-commitment coaching sessions with Bill

Who are coaching sessions for?

These sessions are aimed at adults — especially people who are learning independently, returning to music after a break, or looking to broaden their existing skills.

If you’ve seen one of my many piano tutorials online – or if you’re following my famous YouTube How To Play Piano for Beginners course – and you like my coaching style, then I can probably help you achieve your musical goals.

An adult self-teacher

You’re making progress, but you’d value the chance to check in from time to time, ask questions, sort out technical or musical problems, and make sure you are heading in the right direction. Whether you’re following a traditional classical route or learning to improvise – or a bit of both – I can help.

A musician wanting to expand your skills

You may already play, sing, write, perform, or work in music in some other way, but want to strengthen areas such as keyboard skills, harmony, improvisation, songwriting, arranging or practical musicianship.

What’s covered in the sessions?

A coaching session can be shaped around whatever would be most useful to you. That might include:

  • Piano practice strategy for beginners

  • Dealing with specific questions you have or problems you face

  • Developing music reading skills

  • Making progress with piano improvisation

  • Getting your hands working together (it’s harder than it looks!)

  • Chords, harmony and accompaniment patterns

  • Songwriting and musical structure

  • Keyboard skills for singers, writers, teachers, or composers

Some people come with a very specific question, while others want a broader musical check-in. Both are fine – just get in touch using the contact form below to tell me about your own needs and challenges.

  • After some considerable time and different piano tutors, I experienced my second lesson with Bill. In the follow up email of the points discussed there is a deceptively simple exercise to try. After ten minutes, I laughed out loud as the rhythm that had eluded me for months leapt out of the page!
