One-to-One Coaching

Piano and music coaching for ambitious musicians.

If you write, record, perform or produce music, there may be areas of musicianship that you’ve never had the chance to develop systematically.

I help musicians fill those gaps – often around keyboard skills, harmony, chords, improvisation and songwriting.

I offer one-off, occasional and regular coaching sessions for professionals and active musicians who want thoughtful, practical guidance without having to commit to weekly sessions.

One-to-one musicianship coaching for songwriters, producers and performers

Who are coaching sessions for?

My typical coaching clients are singer-songwriters, musicians in bands, producers and aspiring producers who want to improve their keyboard skills, their musical creativity or their abilities with chords and music theory.

If you already know my teaching from YouTube and like the way I explain musical ideas, the same practical approach carries through into my one-to-one coaching.

Expanding your skills

You might make your living from music, be working towards a professional career, or simply be a serious and experienced musician. What matters is that you’re already making music and want to broaden what you can do.

Sessions can be one-off, occasional or regular, depending on what you need. I find that some clients bring a particular musical problem they want to solve; some check in periodically as their work develops, and others like a regular coaching session.

I like to build lasting relationships with coaching clients, so my fee includes:

  • My preparation for sessions, which might include listening and song familiarisation

  • A follow-up email after every coaching session, with reminders, resources and to-dos

  • Occasional between-session check-ins this often involves clients sending me audio or video for feedback.

Learning piano?

I also offer one-to-one support for adult piano learners. The best way to access this is via one of the coaching tiers in my Patreon community, each of which comes with a yearly coaching entitlement (that you can top up at a discounted rate).

Joining the Patreon is the best route because it also comes with many other benefits, including access to exclusive resources and our very friendly community of learners.

What’s covered in the sessions?

A coaching session can be shaped around whatever would be most useful to you. That might include:

  • Piano and keyboard skills for singers, songwriters, guitarists and producers

  • Dealing with specific musical questions you have or problems you face

  • Understanding chords, harmony and accompaniment patterns

  • Developing music reading skills

  • Making progress with keyboard improvisation

  • Songwriting and musical structure

Some people come with a very specific question, while others want a broader musical check-in. Both are fine – just get in touch using the contact form below to tell me about your own needs and challenges.

  • Bill is hands down the greatest music teacher I have ever had. I have learned more in the past two years with him than in the 15 years prior. Bill has that rare gift of being able to make the most complex music theory and piano concepts both simple to understand and fun to learn – I can’t imagine learning the piano and music theory from anyone else.
